Generally a little reserved and most definitely depressed, Lukas struggles a lot with letting the past go.
Lukas is short, fat, and covered in hair—a true bear. Their hair is long and a dark brown that they inherited from their mother. While they cut it at one point, they’ve since grown it back out as a way to remember those they’ve lost and who they used to be.
Depression is an old friend of Lukas’ that they’ve never been able to shake. From a child, they’ve struggled with it, but since being turned and being faced with their own actions, they’ve started to struggle even more. While they’ve had moments in their life where it’s eased, it’s never gone away. They’re not the most outgoing soul, but they will always do their best to cheer others up, or to look out for others, even if it’s not wanted. They’re plagued by guilt and constantly feel as though they must atone for the things they’ve done. Being a nurse is part of that, but they also have a passion for caring for others that they wish they had discovered earlier in life. They have a soft spot for music, and they’ve managed to learn how to play many instruments over the course of their life, but they still have a soft spot for the guitar and the piano. Born with the ability to alter others’ emotions (which causes them horrific migraines), it’s a power that Lukas has sworn off ever using again, just as they’ve sworn off killing unwilling victims.

Born almost three centuries ago, Lukas is somewhat out of time. They try and keep up, but they’re somewhat sentimental. They didn’t have much in the way of choice when they were growing up, and it trapped them in some tricky situations, not that they’d ever let themself accept that it was anyone’s fault but theirs.
Lukas spent the first 16 years of their life living with their parents. Their father was an abusive, angry man; their mother gentle and passive. It wasn’t the greatest mix. Their father owned a gym, and from a young age, they worked there manning the office and cleaning up. Their father was once a musician, which Lukas believes is where their desire to play music started. They spent most of their life wanting to play the piano, as well as the guitar, as their father had played it. They typically tried to bond over it, but it was to no avail.
When they were just 16 years old, a stranger that they later came to know as Ludic Musgrave entered the gym. He was kind to them and offered them a tip, which he continued to give to them over the next few months. One night, when they left the building after closing (a task that their father had assigned to them a few years prior), it was raining and Ludic was waiting. She offered them a ride home, but when the pair got to chatting, they found out she was a musician and was fascinated. He promised to teach them the piano, and that same night, he invited them back to his place to start their tutelage. They accepted.

She offered them a ride home, but when the pair got to chatting, they found out she was a musician and was fascinated. He promised to teach them the piano, and that same night, he invited them back to his place to start their tutelage. They accepted.
A few months after their first lesson, they’d saved enough money using the tips Ludic provided to buy a guitar. When they arrived home and presented it to their father, suggesting he could teach them now, he blew up at them, claiming they’d been stealing from him. This resulted in him attacking Lukas with the guitar and breaking it, then kicking them out. They ran to Ludic’s, who said they could stay as long as they wanted.
Once the school year started again, Lukas went to visit their parents’ place when they knew their father would be out, but not to return—just to collect their things. Their mother, who hadn’t heard from them in some time, was distraught and desperate for them to stay, but they said they’d only return if their father would apologise. He didn’t, of course, and so they lived with Ludic throughout sixth form and their university, where they studied music. They joined a band while they were there with some friends they’d made at university.
After university, when Lukas was 21, their band was about to perform at a battle of the bands competition. Before they could go on stage, their lead vocalist, Scott, arrived drunk to their rehearsal. After an argument and a scuffle, Maria, the drummer, kicked him out, telling Lukas to do his part instead. They tried their best, but they lost when they messed up a song, and the band broke up after that.
A few weeks later, Scott was found dead with his throat ripped out in what was called a suspected animal attack. They attended his funeral alongside Maria, but that was the last they ever heard from her.
Afterwards, Ludic encouraged them to go it alone as a solo act, and they did. They managed to score a number of gigs, and by the time they turned 25, they were opening for bigger bands. They invited their mother to every gig, but she only attended one in the entirety of their career. The following evening, though, they received a call saying that she was in hospital in critical condition. When they arrived, it was clear to them that their father had put her there.
When they confronted her about it, she denied it, and they were removed by security when they caused a scene with their father. When they got home, Ludic comforted them and further stoked their anger against their father, then offered them a chance to have the strength to stand up to him—that being by killing them, as they admitted they wanted to. She then turned them into a vampire before sleeping with them.
The following night, she arrived with their father tied up on the ground. Lukas killed him there and then, draining him dry. They returned to the hospital the next evening and alluded to what had happened to their mother, but she rejected and disowned them. This left them distraught and angry at the world, and they became somewhat numbed to it all.
When their mother finally died of some illness, Lukas lost some of their spark. Their confidence and security in their relationship with Ludic dwindled, as well as their enjoyment of the kill. Over the following decades, they became more and more withdrawn, and the pair argued, mostly over Ludic’s enjoyment of seducing and sleeping with their prey and Lukas’ lack of desire to partake.
Eventually, they got sick of it. Their depression returned tenfold and they started to attempt to get caught. Over a week, they killed ten people, and left the final body out in the open. Ludic was furious, and when she confronted them in a club, they realised they were being hunted by a hunter. Lukas and Ludic went outside to argue further, but when they were almost caught, she said she’d ‘deal with it,’ so they left. The hunters in question were Ilya and Sacha Agnosdei, children of the most prolific hunting family in the area, and Ludic managed to kill Ilya.
After that, the two didn’t talk much. Lukas would kill to survive and listen to Ludic as he wined and dined his victims. They didn’t try to get caught again, but they barely let themself live, either. Their numbness increased as they began to loathe themself, feeling as though they’d lost the only person that’d ever believed in them, or cared for them.
After around a century of having their condition, they met a homeless man called Constantine. The two hit it off, and Lukas began to visit him every night, gradually feeling somewhat more like a person. They eventually brought him home where they slept together. It was done with no intention of killing him, and it brought back a glimmer of hope for them. When they woke up the next night, however, they heard Constantine and Ludic talking, negotiating some sort of deal—Ludic had hired him to seduce them in order to ‘bring them back’ to him.
Lukas fled that night. They arrived at a nearby town as the sun began to rise, intent on killing themself. But the sun didn’t kill them. Instead, a kind woman named Magnolia took them in.
They spent a few years with Magnolia settling in, and eventually got a job as a nurse at the local elderly care home. There were four residents there, and Lukas got along well with most of them. One, Alice, was a retired hunter (they later found out from the Agnosdei family) and eventually asked them to feed from one of the four of them each night to relieve their pain somewhat. Lukas agreed after some reassurance, and that was that for some time.
One evening after work, Lukas found a young boy, Andrei, in an alley. He’d been blinded in one eye from a werewolf attack, so they took him to get treated immediately. Afterwards, they took him home to figure out what’d happened, and they found his parents dead. This caused Andrei to transform—he’d been turned during the attack. With him now orphaned and sharing a similar plight, Lukas took him in, eventually getting a place for the pair of them that was more accessible for his needs.
After a few more months, one of the nurses at the care home was killed—by a vampire. Sacha Agnosdei was brought in to investigate, and he eventually figured out Lukas was a vampire. However, due to Andrei’s presence in their life, they hesitated on killing them immediately. They agreed to work together to find the true culprit on the sole condition, encouraged by Lukas, that Sacha kill them afterwards.
They discovered that the culprit was the local priest, who’d been turned by Ludic in order to get Lukas back. They killed her, but Sacha, having seen Lukas’ kindness and had his beliefs shattered, refused to kill them. Instead, he proclaimed that they would live, but that he’d stay to keep an eye on them.
Over time, his parents found out the truth about Lukas, and he was, like Alice, expelled from the family. It wasn’t without attempts on Lukas’ life, but over the years, as the two grew closer, they began to start a relationship that eventually resulted in them getting married.
Eventually, as all mortals do, Sacha and Andrei died, leaving Lukas rather lost. They drifted for some time, as they still are. However, at Andrei’s funeral, when visiting the body in the mortuary, Lukas got on well with The Mortician. They formed a bond with it, as it took an interest in them, and they found it was a glimmer of hope in the darkness that was losing their son.
For a good 75 years, they had a solid relationship with it, but then it disappeared for some time. Afterwards, it returned different. It had the same face, but it didn’t recognise them. This broke them a little, as they knew they’d have to say goodbye one day, but they never expected it’d mean seeing it walking around still. Since then, they’ve been a little distant, even if they’ve been trying to keep themself interested.
Lukas doesn’t have a huge number of key relationships, as they’ve had to outlive many of the people they’ve known, and they’ve rarely been able to call anyone a friend.
Their beloved, their husband. Lukas and Sacha spent a long time together, far longer than either of them had expected. They were deeply devoted to one another—the light in each other’s darkness.
Their darling son. Lukas would’ve done anything for him, and they did. They raised him as best they could and helped him learn to live with his lycanthropy. His death almost broke them.
Their sire. And a lover, once. They aren’t so sure whether Ludic actually ever cared about them, and they don’t care to find out. So far as they know, she’s still alive out there somewhere, but they don’t want her to find them just as much as they don’t want to find him.
A friend in a time of need. They spent some time together, but now it’s gone while someone else walks around with its face. They’re not sure what to do about it.
Lukas is mostly musically inclined, but they were once on the path to becoming an electrician. Over the years, they’ve amassed many skills, but music is still their true passion.
